Upgrade install

Depending on the type of release you are upgrading your existing version of Experian Pandora to, follow the instructions below.

Upgrading using an executable

You should take a backup of your database before upgrading or patching to a newer version of Experian Pandora. Whilst there shouldn't be issues with updating the database to a new version of Experian Pandora, backups should be taken.

Windows

To take a backup of your database on Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Before shutting down the service, make sure that no load or validation jobs are being carried out.
  2. Ensure that the Experian Pandora service is fully stopped. This can be done by setting the service startup type to 'Disabled' in services.msc. Alternatively, stop the Experian Pandora standalone .exe.
  3. Locate and copy the Experian Pandora database directory and all sub-folders. By default, the database is in: C:\Pandora. If Experian Pandora is installed in a different location to the default, you can find where it is by either checking the Storage server settings within the Experian Pandora client, or opening the server.properties file.
  4. Copy the Experian Pandora database folder and all sub-folders to a different directory. Depending on the size of the repository, backing up the database could take several hours. Using backup utilities will speed up the backup process.
Linux

To take a backup of your database on Linux, follow these steps:

  1. Before shutting down the service, make sure that no load or validation jobs are being carried out.
  2. Ensure that the Experian Pandora service is fully stopped. You can confirm that Experian Pandora is not running using the command pserver status from the Experian Pandora user.
  3. Locate and copy the Experian Pandora database directory and all sub-folders. By default, the database is in the following location: /pandora.

You will have been sent a link to enable you to download Experian Pandora. Follow the link in the email and download the latest setup executable.

The site is password protected and you should have received authentication details from your local Technical support representative via email. Note that these details are different to the login credentials you have been given to login to the Experian Pandora client.

If you haven't received a download link or don't know your authentication details, contact your local Technical support team.

After downloading the installer, run it and follow the installation instructions for either a single machine or client-server installation.

Please note:

  • It's safe to leave the previous installation installed, you will however need to set the previous server service to Disabled to prevent it restarting after a server restart. (It should already be stopped.)

  • You will have to re-apply any previous changes to location directories that you made either during your original installation or prior to upgrade unless you have previously configured a system-wide location for server.properties file. This can be done in 1 of 2 ways:

    • take a copy of the settings in the server.properties file and apply them to the newly created copy after upgrade installation has completed, or

    • refer to Configuring server properties section.

  • You will also need to repeat any changes you made to the .ini files such as changes to the default jvm memory settings.

Windows service
  1. Navigate to Windows Services. From the Start menu, in the Search programs and files box, type Services and press Enter.
  2. Locate Experian Pandora Database Server <version>.
  3. Right-click, and select Start.
Standalone server

The Experian Pandora Server runs as a normal executable. To run the server as a standalone, from the Start Menu locate the program group for the Experian Pandora Server. Click the Pandora Database Server icon to execute it.

  1. From the Start menu, click Experian Pandora Client <version>.

  2. In the pop up dialog, select the server to connect to (localhost if you've installed Experian Pandora on a single machine, or enter the server address and port number if you're connecting to a remote server), then enter your credentials and click Login. The default credentials are:

    username: administrator
    password: administrator

We recommend that you change the default credentials immediately after initial installation (in the Experian Pandora client, right-click Home > User > Change password…). For other users, we recommend that the administrator logs in and either changes the passwords before handing out login details or deletes them and creates their own set of users. The other default users (other than admin) are mainly for getting started or demonstrations.

To perform a patch of an existing installation, you will need the following files that will have been supplied to you by your Technical support representative:

  • pserver.jar
  • pclient.jar.

Both files are needed, whether you are patching the server installation or a client installation. If you have not received these files, please contact your local Technical support team.

  1. Stop the server or service and client(s).
  2. Place the pserver.jar and pclient.jar files directly into the installation directory folder. Once these files are in place you can start everything back up.
Windows service
  1. Navigate to Windows Services. From the Start menu, in the Search programs and files box, type Services and press Enter.
  2. Locate Pandora Database Server <version><operating system>.
  3. Right-click, and select Start.

Linux server

To start the server with default settings, run the following command:

./pserver start
  1. From the Start menu, click Experian Pandora Client <version>.

Database upgrade

Once you have logged in, you may see some stages running as your database upgrades. These can include the Repository being updated, objects being re-written (this part is dependent on what has changed in the update/patch) and if required a defragmentation of the data folder (again dependent on how fragmented that data has become).

Please note, if you have a large repository or a significant number of tables, then the upgrade can take upwards of a few hours.

Upgrade using a .tar.gz file

Download the relevant .tar.gz for Experian Pandora you wish to upgrade to from the download page obtained from your support representative. If you have not received these files, please contact your local Technical support team.

  1. Login in as the Experian Pandora user (default is pandora)

  2. Copy the Experian Pandora tar file to the home directory of the Experian Pandora user; un-tar the distribution as follows:

    tar –xvzf pandora_tar_file.tar.gz

This will create a new directory of the form /home/pandora/pandora<version>

  3. Add the install_directory/bin to the $PATH environment variable:

    export PATH=$PATH:/home/pandora/pandora<version>/bin

This sets the variable for the session. How to make this as a persistent change is dependent on your operating system.

Note: You will have to make sure to re-apply any previous changes to default settings that you made either during your original installation or prior to upgrade. This are most likely in server.properties and install_directory/etc/Linux/pserver.

This can be done in one of two ways:

To start the server with default settings, run the following command:

pserver start

If your Experian Pandora client(s) are already installed, follow these steps to connect them to the server, otherwise follow the instructions to install the client(s) on the target machine(s).

On the machine where the client is installed:

  1. From the Start menu, click Experian Pandora Client <version>.

  2. In the pop up dialog, enter the server address and port number, your credentials and click Login.

  3. If you don't already have a license key, you will need to request one when you first log into Experian Pandora. On the License Key screen, clicking the Email button will populate an email with the information. Send the email, and when you receive your license key, paste it here.
