Manage your license

The Data Studio license enables a set of functionality in the application. The license is made up of multiple licensed features, allowing you to choose exactly what functionality to enable.

Only users with the "Manage Product License" capability in their role can view and update the license.

View license information

To check what license you have and see what features it enables:

1. Click the user icon in the top menu and select About Aperture Data Studio.
2. Click Show detailed license info.

On this page you can see:

• Edition: The base license. You will not be able to log into Data Studio when the expiration date is exceeded.
• Additional features: All features applied in addition to the base edition, and when that feature expires.
• Validate addresses datasets: Lists any reference datasets licensed for use in the Validate addresses step. The data set vintage and data expiry dates are also shown.
• Edition allowances: A cumulative summary of all the features in your current license. For example, you are usually licensed for three Designer users but have bought an additional for five-user license with a six-month expiry date for a short-term project. The "Edition allowances" table will show that you are currently licensed for eight users, while the "Additional features" table will show that five of these users are due to expire sooner than the others.
• Non native add-on steps.

Request and apply a license update code

There are several reasons for updating your license:

• Your current license is about to expire.
• To add additional features to your current license; for example more users or data sources.
• To enable additional Workflow steps that are licensed separately; for example the Find duplicates step.

When you request a license, you will be asked to provide the unique update key generated by your specific Data Studio deployment. Using the update key and the license requirements, Experian will generate an update code to be applied in Data Studio.

To get the update key or apply an update code, click the user icon in the top menu and select Update license.

License update codes

To manually update your license, you will be asked to provide the unique update key generated by your specific Data Studio deployment. This will be used by Experian to generate an update code that you will be sent to apply.

Audit codes

The audit code encodes Data Studio's current license including any additional features. You may be asked to provide this to Experian to ensure the application is correctly licensed.

To get the audit code:

1. Click the user icon in the top menu and select About Aperture Data Studio.
2. Click Show detailed license info and scroll to the end of the page.

Licensed features

Rows and data sources

Rows per table is the maximum number of rows that a single Dataset can have. For a multi batch Dataset, the total number of rows is the sum of all rows in all batches. This limit applies to all Datasets, including Snapshots.

Number of data sources is the number of Datasets that can be loaded into Data Studio. Data loaded from files, database tables, or created in a Workflow (as a Snapshot) all count as Datasets. The limit applies to the sum total of all Datasets in all Spaces and Environments within your deployment.

Data connections

Data connection - All allows Data Studio users to set up External system connections to any of the supported system types. If this is not enabled in the license, separate features can be used to enable specific connection types:

• Data connection - HDFS to enable files to be loaded from and written to Hadoop Distributed File System.
• Data connection - Microsoft Azure Blob Storage to enable files to be loaded from and written to Azure Blob or ADLS Gen2.
• Data connection - AWS S3 to enable files to be loaded from and written to S3.
• Data connection - JDBC to enable JDBC connections to be established to data sources with suitable drivers.

SFTP connections are available for all license editions.

User license limits

The user license limits apply to enabled users. If a user is disabled, their Space, permissions, and settings are retained but they are not able to log in and no longer count towards the license limit. You may create as many users as you wish and enable/disable them selectively as required.

Data Consumer users is the number of Consumer users that can be enabled at any point in time with a role that has no defined capabilities. Consumer users typically interact with reports generated by Data Studio Workflows.

Administrator / Designer users is the number of users that can be enabled at any point in time with a role that at a minimum includes the 'Access Designer interface' capability. Any user managing data, creating Workflows, or carrying out user administration will be an Administrator / Designer user.

Non native add-on steps

Non native add-on steps indicates whether Workflow steps and parsers built using the Data Studio SDK, also known as custom steps and custom parsers, can be used in the deployment.

Where custom steps or parsers are included as part of a Data Studio deployment, the About Aperture Data Studio page will also list the name, version, developer and the assigned license type.
