Creating or promoting a ruleset to the Data Catalog enables organizations to:

  • Govern and manage rules centrally within a shared library.
  • Add business context to rules by assigning attributes such as:
    • Data quality dimensions
    • Severity levels
    • Process impact
  • Assign ownership to rules to drive accountability and stewardship.
  • Collaborate effectively through comments and notifications for rule-related discussions.
  • Link rules to other Catalog objects, enabling aggregated dashboards and insights across:
    • Business processes
    • Business units
    • Data domains

Benefits

Rulesets that are created or promoted, and their validation results from execution are available in the Data Catalog for display and reporting. This integration supports:

  • Enhanced visibility of rule performance.
  • Centralized monitoring of data quality initiatives.
  • Improved alignment between rules and organizational objectives.

Promoting rulesets from Aperture Data Studio

All rulesets promoted from Aperture Data Studio will appear in the Rulesets list. Please refer here for the steps to promote a Ruleset to the Data Catalog.

Creating a New Ruleset in Catalog

In addition to managing promoted rulesets, you can create new rulesets directly in the Catalog.

  1. Navigate to the Rulesets page in the Catalog.
  2. Click Create new Ruleset.
  3. Provide the following details:
    • Name (required): A unique name for the ruleset.
    • Space (required): Select the space where the ruleset will sync with Aperture Data Studio.
    • Description: Add detailed information about the ruleset. Markdown formatting is supported.
    • Summary: Provide a short summary for quick reference.
  4. Click Save to create the ruleset.

Adding Components to a Ruleset

Once the ruleset is created, you can add the following components:

  1. Rule Inputs
    • Click Add input.
    • Enter a Name and optional Description.
    • Click Add to save.
  2. Rule Groups
    • Click Add group.
    • Provide:
      • Name and Summary.
      • Rule Group Weighting (optional).
      • Pass Percentage and Fail Percentage thresholds.
    • Click Add to save.
  3. Rules
    • Click Add rule.
