How layouts relate to cleaned addresses

In Clean, Layouts are used to control the format that postal addresses would traditionally be displayed on an envelope. For example:

However, in most cases Clean is used to edit records within a database, and it does so via a plain text file in .csv format. This means the address in the Cleaned Address File (which you will download once your Job is complete) will actually more like this:

So, the lines that you create in a Layout are transposed to a horizontal format in your Cleaned Address File, but they remain in the order you stipulate.
